Koftgari Damascus Lost Art Handmade Dagger

Koftgari is ornamental work produced by inlaying steel with silver. A variety of damascening that is much used in the arts of India. It is a type of antiqued metalwork where thick wire is hammered into the undercut grooves. The dagger you see before you has beautiful intricate silverwork throughout the handle and scabbard. The free flowing artistic composition you see here are of leaves and vines that complement the Damascus blade. The Damascus blade features a raindrop pattern with a silver plant in the center. The Damascus blade was forged by a black smith using alternating bars of steel carbon and iron with different degrees of hardness. This composite is made of alternating bars of high- and low-carbon steels then forge welded together. The process is repeated until the desired pattern is obtained. The interior of the scabbard has dark blue faux velvet so the blade can slide in and out without scratching the surface. This beautiful dagger is a treasure and will be the crowned jewel of any collection.
